| She attended Vespertine and Wellsville High School. After the death of James Elvas in 1946 Elizabeth raised four children as a single parent working for Wellsville's Dr. Naylor as a housekeeper and caring for an ailing Mrs. Naylor. She was later employed at the Sunflower Ordnance Plant in DeSota, KS for 12 years. Obituary: Services for Elizabeth N. Hutchison were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 3, in the Wilson & Son Funeral Home, Wellsville. Burial was in the Wellsville Cemetery. Mrs. Hutchison died at her home Tuesday, August 30, after a long illness. She was a homemaker and a former employee of the Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant near DeSoto. She was a member of the Wellsville chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and the American Legion Auxillary. Survivors include four sons, Jerry Patton, Osage, Keith Patton, Edgerton, Lucky Patton and Rex Patton, both of Wellsville; three step-sons, Wilbur Hutchison, Olathe, Willard Hutchison, Lawrence, and Merl Hutchison, Baldwin; three daughters, Yvonne Thorn and Jean Walker, both of Wellsville, and JoAnn Laster of Shell Knob, Mo.; a step-daughter, Donna Belle Gatewood of South Carolina; 30 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was married to James Patton, who died in 1946, and Otis Hutchison, who died in 1968. The family suggests memorials to either the Wellsville High School scoreboard fund or to the high school band. | ||||||||||||||||||

| Private, U.S. Army, 329th Infantry, 83rd Division, World War I, served in Europe. Oil field worker around Wellsville adn McLouth, Kansas. Member of the Wellsville Methodist Church. A farm auction was held, January 29th, 1939. There was a terrible ice storm and everything was covered in ice. After the sale the family moved to McLouth, Kansas where Elvas worked on oil rigs. Obituary: Body of James Elvas Patton Here Tuesday For Burial He Had Passed Away Sunday, At Wadsworth Hospital Which He Entered Recently. James Elvas Patton, the son of the late Tweed and Nora Patton was born May 13, 1894, at Wellsville, Kans. He passed away at Wadsworth Veterans hospital, Wadsworth, Kans., May 6, 1946, at the age of 51 years, 11 months adn 23 days. He spent his entire life around Wellsville except the last five years at McLouth, Kans. Elvas Patton was united in marriage to Elizabeth Shannon Aptil 19, 1920. To this union nine children were born. Two infant daughters preceeded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, seven children, Yvonne Thorn, Wellsville, Kans., JoAnn of Kansas City; Jerry, Jean, Keith, Lucky, Rex of the home, two grandchildren, Roger and Elinor Thorn of Wellsville, and one brother, Carl of Wellsville. Early in his life he became a member of the Methodist Church and held his membership in the Wellsville church at the time of his death. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at Coughlin's Chapel. Mrs. T. B. Ford and Mrs. J. M. Torrance accompanied by Mrs. E. P. Barnett sang "The Old Rugged Cross", and "In the Garden." Rev. Torrance officiated. Internment was in the Wellsville cemetery. The American Legion, Veterans of World Wars I and II, attended in a body. Casketbearers were Legion men, Chas. Bardorf, John Renham, Hugh Cramer, Alpha Steen, Carl Warnock and Ray Simmons. At the cemetery they honored the dead, with World War II veterans forming the firing squad and color guard. Hugh Cramer sounded taps. | ||||||||||||||||||
